Northampton Saints out-scored Gloucester by three tries to two at Sixways Stadium on Sunday on their way to securing the LV= Cup with a 30-24 victory in the final.

The victory ensures that Northampton Saints have qualified for next season's Heineken Cup.

Goal-kickers Stephen Myler and Nicky Robinson exchanged penalties in the opening 20 minutes, both slotting two a piece.

Gloucester surged ahead to a 14-6 lead after 29 minutes when Robinson kicked his thrid penalty and Akapusi Qera opened the try-scoring.

However, Northampton had a strong response in store and wiped out the deficit before taking a 20-14 lead at the break.

Soane Tonga'uiha and James Downey contributed with tries while Myler kept the score-board ticking over with his conversions.

Gloucester briefly took the lead after the break as Robinson converted a penalty try in the 52nd minute, but the Saints negated the score two minutes later as Lee Dickson crashed over for a try before Myler added the extras.

The kickers slotted a penalty each to finish off the clash as Northampton claimed the LV= Cup with a six-point margin of victory.
